Christmas CD News: Break out the Gadgets!!
Our next Christmas CD will be released in November of 2010. Over the end of the Spring and beginning of the Summer this past year we attempted to arrange a live Christmas music event that would be recorded and offered as the 2009 CD. To do this we looked for potential church venues where there was suitable equipment available to make the recording as well as support the needs for live sound. Unfortunately we ran into scheduling and other issues with the churches and, in spite of the efforts of may people, in the end we just could not work it out. It was frustrating, to be sure. But it was also a blessing in disguise.
Equipment has always been an issue for the Christmas CD. We have been blessed over the past few years with individuals and businesses helping by donating the use of their equipment or from recording studios giving very discounted rates. In light of the difficulties this past year making such arrangements, it was decided that the Mission would direct the usual productions costs of the annual CD to the purchase of professional recording equipment.
In December we took delivery on a PreSonus StudioLive 16 Channel Digital Recording and Performance Mixer. In the coming weeks, there will be a new laptop for recording, microphones, stands, headphones, cables... It is all very exciting!
This investment will give us the tools to produce quality recordings and provide sound support for events such as the Gospel Fest and a few other new community music events we are thinking about.
The other thing this does is allow us to focus on finding and recruiting, engineers, producers, and musicians. No more having to also figure out where to get the equipment. We now have tools that will help us build real partnerships by giving the opportunity for these talented people to work with new, wonderful, top-of-the-line equipment. It will also open up the doors for us to approach local schools and churches to give students of audio production the opportunity to enhance their skills with hands on experience with new equipment and software-- Did we mention it's all very exciting?
