This year’s Canal Fest Duck Race was a
complete success
even despite four out of seven days of pouring rain. We worked for a
total of 86 hours and over a thousand pink, blue and yellow ducks were
sold from Sunday, July 19th Staff,
consumers and board members with umbrellas and ducks in hand were ready
to sell and make money for Community Missions and all it provides to
the community. They worked together as a team to make this event go off
without a single solitary problem except the one thing we couldn’t
control; the rain. Rain or shine the duck race volunteers came to work
their shift showing those in the North Tonawanda-Tonawanda Canal Fest
communities that CMI consumers, staff and board members believed in the
event and what it meant As the rain fell on Saturday
at 3 p.m., the Duck Race began. The community members were on each side
of the Canal. They stood in the rain cheering on their numbered duck in
hopes that their coaching might be just what their swimmer might need
to win. A wave of pink, yellow and blue splashed in the Canal at the
sound of the fog horn; the race had begun. The ducks swam from the
Delaware Street Bridge to the Railroad
Bridge finish
line. One yellow and two pink ducks crossed and the winners were
announced. It ended approximately 20 minutes later. The
post-race
water volunteers Thanks to all that helped in any way, from manning the tent and selling ducks to putting up the tent up in the pouring rain on parade night to fishing each duck out of the Canal at the end of the race. This years Duck Race was success all the way around because of all of your dedication and hard work. We look forward to making it happen BIGGER and dryer next year; if the sun cooperates. Thanks again!!
