Onesimus House
Independent Living Group Care Residence which
provides transitional support services to eight (8) homeless youth ages
16-21. Young mothers with
children may also receive assistance.
While the program is voluntary, it stresses the importance of
accepting responsibility for one’s decisions and taking effective
action, while staff provide support, guidance and encouragement to
succeed.
Referrals are made to the Department of Social
Services and/or the Niagara County Youth Bureau from a variety of
community sources. Support
services focus on the networking and linkage for these young adults to
existing community services in an effort to address the multiple problems
of the homeless and/or independent youth and their families.
Casework staff on-site provide services that will
lead to goals for employment, education, daily living skill instruction,
physical and emotional health related issues, and advocacy services.
These case management services provide realistic support and
development of the skills necessary for the transition from program to
independent living environments. Residents must be willing to be a part of and cooperate with
programming. Length of stay
depends on each individual plan.
This program is certified by the New York
State Office of Children & Family Services (Runaway and Homeless
Services Unit).
