Niagara
Falls PINS Diversion Intensive Case Management Program (PINSDICM)
This
community-based case management program offers families the ability to
access services designed to refocus the current situation, and empower
each family member to return to a path of success for the youth and
family. The Niagara County Department of Social Services will refer
youth, age 10-15, who are exhibiting PINS-related behaviors, for
participation in the program. Key
components of the program include a thorough mental health/substance
abuse assessment, drug screening, family support services, academic
assistance, linkage to other community service agencies, and family
therapy once each week. Youth are required to adhere to established
curfew limits, participate in structured group and family therapy, and
cooperate with random drug screening throughout the (90) day program.
The program also makes use of restorative justice components such as
restitution, community service, and victim/offender mediation. The
Niagara Falls PINS Diversion Intensive Case Management Program is also
expected to reduce the number of PINS petitions filed in Family Court
and reduce the need to detain youth in traditional detention
environments and out-of-home placement settings. This
will be achieved by providing intensive case management and support
services to youth and families utilizing several evidence based models
for intervention, in a (90) day time frame. This
program is monitored in partnership with the NYS Office of Children
& Family Services and Niagara County
Department of Social Services. Other REACH Programs
