NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. - The Fifth Annual Niagara County Poverty Conference will be presented on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Niagara Falls Housing Authority's Doris W. Jones Family Resource Building by the Niagara County Coalition for Services to the Homeless, along with Buffalo/Niagara Falls and Erie/Niagara Counties Continuum of Care, and Niagara University.

The fifth anniversary of the conference will feature a theme of "Interrupting Poverty," based on the keynote speakers of the event from ideas42, a non-profit design and consulting firm that uses insights from behavioral sciences to address complex social problems. Their white paper, "Poverty Interrupted," focuses on how the application of behavioral science to the problem of poverty can make a difference on both a micro and macro scale. This paper will be the focal point of the presentation, and is available for download at

Also included in the day will be a presentation from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, followed by a funders' roundtable featuring the Health Foundation of Western & Central New York, the KeyBank Foundation and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. Afternoon sessions will discuss the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative and its impact in Niagara Falls, along with local projects aimed toward breaking the cycle of poverty.

The YWCA of Niagara's Catering Crew, a social enterprise dedicated to helping women become economically self-sufficient, will provide breakfast and lunch for the event. Meals are included in the $20 registration, which is available through Feb. 26 at
