LOCKPORT, N.Y. – Community Missions has launched its Girls Circle at the Kenan Center, marking the girls empowerment program’s first foray into Eastern Niagara County. Sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the month of August.

Community Missions began offering Girls Circle in 2016, thanks to funding from the Niagara Area Foundation, a division of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. The program is designed to foster self-esteem, help girls maintain authentic connection with peers and adult women in their community, counter trends of self-doubt, and allow for genuine self-expression through verbal sharing and creative activity. Over the past five years, the program has served a wide variety of ages in the Niagara Falls City Schools and has been funded through their 21st Century Grant. A second grant from the Niagara Area Foundation has provided funding for this Summer’s expansion to Lockport, and other program necessities.

“We are so pleased to partner with the Kenan Center to offer Girls Circle to the Lockport area,” said Elizabeth Freiburger, Girls Circle Lead Facilitator. “We have had great success in the Niagara Falls schools with the program, and there has been interest in expanding for some time. We want to thank the Niagara Area Foundation for their continued support of the young women throughout the County that will benefit.”

Sessions are varied and include discussions about relationships, social media, body image, and healthy living, along with arts and crafts and other fun activities. For more information about the program, please visit www.communitymissions.org/girls-circle or call 716-990-8101
