25th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive to be held May 13

On Saturday, May 13, the National Association of Letter Carriers will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of its Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. What a wonderful milestone for this community-driven effort that has helped countless individuals and families throughout the country!


Project Connect Niagara to Provide Services & Resources to Those in Need

Project Connect Niagara, an event designed to connect those in need with critical services in a "one-stop" venue, will take place on Wednesday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heart, Love, and Soul Inc. in Niagara Falls, N.Y.


Letter Carriers' Food Drive Coming May 14

Twenty-five years ago, the National Association of Letter Carriers launched an idea, of collecting food for the needy as part of their community service effort. What began as a humble drive in 10 cities has now grown to a nationwide force of giving back!


2015 Walk for Niagara is a Success!

Individuals and groups from all over the Niagara region enjoyed spending a beautiful spring day outdoors while also supporting a great cause! This year's Walk for Niagara was held on April 25 at Whirlpool State Park. Over 100 participants, along with approximately 15-20 four-legged friends, supported Community Missions by collecting sponsorships and donations.


Gardens of Compassion Project Marks Earth Day

To mark Earth Day this year (April 22, 2015), clients from Community Missions' Mental Health programs participating as gardeners in the Gardens of Compassion project visited the greenhouses at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County (CCE) in Lockport, N.Y.


Community Missions Hosts Community Connections for Kids Training

Earlier this week, members of the Juvenile Re-Entry Taskforce attended a training session hosted by Community Missions.


Local Youth Enjoy Community Missions Kids Café

As spring approaches, a sense of renewal has been established here at Community Missions. A past program for children in the local community has been re-established. Kids Café, now offered to children up to age 12 and their families, is a program providing entertainment for families in the Niagara region, free of charge.

Caring for Youth - The Experience of a Youth Care Worker

A youth care worker's experiences as an intern at Aurora House, our community residence for severely emotionally disturbed youth.


Community Residence Provides New Beginnings for Youth

In 1996, Residential Environments Allowing Children Hope (REACH) was officially adopted as the Youth Division's title. Among REACH's programs is a Youth Community Residence named Aurora House. Youth in the program have mental health diagnoses and Severely Emotionally Disturbed classification.

 


Class Teaches Skills for Employment to Those on Parole

For the past three years, Community Missions has partnered with Niagara County Community College to offer a weekly non-credit course for those in the Parole Re-Entry program. The course, called Basics for Vocational Preparation, is instructed by volunteers and primarily covers skills necessary for obtaining and maintaining employment.

Free Family Portraits Give the Gift of Memories

Through the generosity of Bob and Jan Inwards, Community Missions again provided family and individual portraits during the Christmas season. This is the third year the Inwards gave of their time and talent to present the opportunity for this special gift to 33 of those who use the mission's services.
